Dr. Nour Shafik El-Gendy is Professor in the field of Petroleum and Environmental Biotechnology, Vice Head of Process Design & Development Department and former Head Manager of Petroleum Biotechnology Lab, Egyptian Petroleum Research Institute, Cairo, Egypt. She is an author of two chapters and three books in the fields of biofuels and petroleum biotechnology and hundred research papers in the fields of; oil pollution, bioremediation, biosorption, biofuels, macro- and micro-corrosion, green chemistry, wastewater treatment, biodesulfurization, biodenitrogenation and nano-bio-technology and its applications in petroleum industry and biofuels. Dr. El-Gendy is also an editor in thirty-one international journals and reviewer for sixty-nine international journals, in the field of; environmental biotechnology, bioenergy and petroleum microbiology and biotechnology, supervised twenty-six MSc and PhD thesis in the field of biofuels, micro-macro-fouling, bioremediation, nano-biotechnology, wastewater treatment, biodenitrogenation and biodesulfurization. Dr. El-Gendy participated in 37 international workshops and training courses, and 58 international conferences. Dr. El-Gendy is a member in many international associations concerned with petroleum industry, environmental health and sciences. She has also teaching experience; lecturer and supervisor for undergraduates' research projects at “Faculty of Biotechnology in Modern Sciences and Arts, MSA University, Egypt” (2007-2008), and Chemical Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering in; “The British University in Egypt BUE" and “Cairo University, Egypt” (2011-2013) and also taught Environmental Biotechnology course for post graduates at “Faculty of Science, Monufia University, Egypt” (2014-2015). Her biography is recorded in Who’s Who in Science and Engineering ninth edition 2006-2007. She is also the vice coordinator of the Scientific Research Committee, National Council for Women (NCW) in Egypt. She is an advisor for the Egyptian Minster of Environment, in the field of pollution caused by petroleum and chemical industries.

Amizah Malip obtained her BSc (First Class Hons) from International Islamic University Malaysia under JPA scholarship. She then furthered her Master and PhD study in Cryptography and Information Security at Royal Holloway University of London with a SLAB Fellowship award. Her main research interest lies in secure cryptographic applications with specific interest in designing cryptographic protocols for vehicular networks. She has served as a reviewer in several scientific journals, committee member of international conferences and sits as an editorial board member in Applied and Computational Mathematics. At University of Malaya, Amizah is serving as a Senior Lecturer upon completing her PhD in January 2015.

Prof. Roy had post- doctoral research experience at Yale University School of Medicine and University of Connecticut Health Centre, USA working on advanced molecular biology. He joined as lecturer in Bose Institute where he characterized a novel repetitive DNA sequence by molecular cloning and sequencing when these techniques were just being introduced in India in mid 80’s. He joined industrial R&D to set up the genetic engineering unit at Hindustan Lever Research Centre, Mumbai. The functioning of the unit is reflected in the number of publications arising out of the work carried out there and the sister concern, Unilever Research Labs. Prof. Roy also did pioneering work with Tea Quality during his tenure at Tea Research Association, Jorhat. This led to the patent on optimization of fermentation time for Black Tea Production. During his tenure at Burdwan University since the inception of Biotechnology department, Prof. Roy was instrumental in establishing the Department and Obtaining DBT-support for the M. Sc. (Biotech) programme through infrastructure and recurring grants since 2006. He was part of the eight member scientific team visiting arctic region, sponsored by National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research, Goa and spent one month (August,2009) at Ny Alesund Research Station, where different countries have their bases. He collected different microflora from glaciers and soil there from which useful industrial enzymes are being isolated and studied. DST (SERC) awarded a project grant on this for the period 2011-2014.

Prof Roy interested research with Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria from root nodules from Fenugreek (Methi), a leguminous plant. Several novel bacteria were isolated, characterized and identified by molecular phylogeny. The abiotic stress tolerance of these bacteria were improved by UV mutagenesis and screening at higher temperature and salt concentration.

Dr. Shailendra Mishra uses genomics-derived framework to explain the complexity of microbial ecosystems by combining meta-omics (metagenomics and metabolomics) with associated metadata (geochemical and physiological data) using multivariate statistical methods. His research interest in the peatland ecosystem is aimed at developing an in-depth understanding of peat–oxidation processes due to microbiome functioning, which leads to high greenhouse gas emissions from tropical peatlands. In urban ecosystems, his research is focused on understanding the microbial assemblages and their associated functions in sediment and water phase of urban waterways in Singapore.

Dr. Pongsak Rattanachaikunsopon is a Professor in the Department of Biological Science at University of Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand. He obtained Bachelor of Science in Radiological Technology at Mahidol University, Thailand and a Master of Science in Anatomy at Mahidol University, Thailand. He earned Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at Lehigh University, Pennsylvania USA. He has been awarded with Professor Sood Saengvichain Award for Best Research and Presentation in 13th Annual Meeting of the Society of Anatomy of Thailand in 1990, Professor Dr. Tab Nilanidhi Foundation Award for the outstanding graduate student in Anatomy in 1991 and Best Government Officer, The Ministry of Education in 2014. He serves as an Editorial board member of more than 10 international Journals.

Prof. Dr. Pongsak Rattanachaikunsopon is interested fields of research are Molecular Biology, Microbiology and Biochemistry. His present research focuses on searching for biological agents such as microorganisms and plants to use as alternatives to control animal and human diseases caused by pathogenic bacteria.

Dr. Parichat Phumkhachorn is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Science at Ubon Ratchathani University, Thailand. She has completed her Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology at KhonKaen University, Thailand and Master of Science in Microbiology at Mahidol University, Thailand. She received her Ph.D. in Biology at KhonKaen University, Thailand. She serves as an Editorial board member of more than 10 international Journals.

Dr. Parichat Phumkhachorn’s main research of interest is in the field of Medical Microbiology and Immunology. Her present research focuses on finding bacteriophages for use as prophylactic and therapeutic agents against pathogenic bacteria causing animal and human diseases.

Ananda Mohan Chakrabarty Ph.D. is a Bengali American microbiologist, scientist, and researcher, most notable for his work in directed evolution and his role in developing a genetically engineered organism using plasmid transfer while working at GE, the patent for which[1] led to landmark Supreme Court case, Diamond v. Chakrabarty.Prof. Chakrabarty genetically engineered a new species of Pseudomonas bacteria ("the oil-eating bacteria") in 1971 while working for the Research & Development Center at General Electric Company in Schenectady, New York.

Currently, his lab is working on elucidating the role of bacterial cupredoxins and cytochromes in cancer regression and arresting cell cycle progression. These proteins have been formerly known for their involvement in bacterial electron transport. He has isolated a bacterial protein, azurin, with potential antineoplastic properties. He has expanded his lab's work to include multiple microbiological species, including Neisseria, Plasmodia, and Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. In 2001, Prof. Chakrabarty founded a company, CDG Therapeutics, (incorporated in Delaware) which holds proprietary information related to five patents generated by his work at the University of Illinois at Chicago. The University of Illinois owns the rights to the patents, but has issued exclusive licences to CDG Therapeutics.
